The P-Bruins: Entertaining and Community Minded
Our very personable and well-spoken young speaker this week was Adam Kaufman, PR Director and Home Announcer for the Providence Bruins hockey team. (Remember to sign up with Avram Cohen for the club's March 14, 4 pm game date.)
A Massachusetts native and lifelong Red Sox fan, Kaufman fell into hockey after graduating from the Newhouse Communications School at Syracuse -- it was an available sports announcing job so he took it, then started learning about hockey.
He says the P-Bruins are a community-minded organization with players taking part in charitable events all the time. Between that and their spirited, entertaining play, their attendance is near the top in the league.
Recognizing that Rhode Islanders have long memories, the team every year honors the memory of its predecessor, the Rhode Island Reds.

Due to time constraints, the flow of activity, and the website trial run for the newsletter, I am keeping this week's comments brief.
Do not forget to complete and send in your ballots for next years' officers and directors to reach the Rotary office by March 12. Indeed, the Future of Rotary Is In (our) Hands.
Come one, come all to the PBruins game on March 14 at 4:00. Contact/sign up with Avram ASAP.
Thanks again to Pat Germani and Jim Alexander from our Board who attended RLI, leaders already outside Rotary and with us, hopefully Club officers down the line.
Note your calendar now for Rotary After Dark March 18 at Local 121, and Bring A Guest (prospective members free) Day on Monday, March 22. Deb Ruggiero, our former member, now a Rotarian in Jamestown, a State Representative and amazing woman, will be our dynamic speaker.
Enjoy the warm sunshine. See you Monday.
Richard

Pat Germani and Jim Alexander reported on the tips and insights they gathered at the Rotary Leadership Institute.
PP Paul Segal put out an appeal for volunteers to house members of the Group Study Exchange Team who will be visiting us April 24-May 1. Hosts will entertain their guests on the weekend; during the week they will be engaged in team activities all day. Contact Paul if interested -- he says it's a very enjoyable experience.
PP Bill DiBiasio reported that the Matching Campaign for ShelterBox in Haiti has reached its goal of $7,500, meaning that our Foundation and donors will have given a total of $25,000, which is enough to house 250 people for six months.
Jenny Miller announced that the next Rotary After Dark is March 18 at Local 121. And the Membership Committee will meet at 11:30 am on March 8.

David Isenberg was happy for the efforts of our Olympic athletes and hopeful of finding better weather in Florida.
Paul Segal said he froze in Florida.
Stanley Sorrentino was inspired by three items in the previous Friday's ProJo: 1) the School Board's actions regarding teachers at Central Falls High School, 2) the Olympic skater who competed just a few days after her mother's death, and 3) a letter reminding him of his work as business community leader in creating Promenade Center.
Don Saracen has been elected to the New England Chapter of the National Speakers Association.
Kris David chartered an Interact club at Bridgewater/Raynham.
Margaret Kane was happy to be back after four weeks in Florida, during which she helped out at the Sanibel Rotary Arts Fair -- which raised $82,000!
Steve Hug was bemused at the report in our newsletter of his comments on the Olympics. Mistaken Identity: he didn't even watch. (Jerry Cannon tossed in a buck to apologize even though it wasn't his goof.)
Parker Smith presented a flag he collected while making up in Sedona, Arizona.
Maury Ryan was happy about a successful Flower Show and thanked Rotarians Kris David, Wendy Marcus, Chuck Carberry and Stanley Sorrentino (as well as former member and PP Susan Blicker) for their contributions.
PP John McGinn celebrated 12 years in Rotary and said he loves the new club web site.
Cy Wyche is still happy.
Walt Adamowicz is happy to be back.
Barry Fain enjoyed the Journal Newspaper Guild Follies and thanked all the newly announced political candidates for providing "stimulus" to his publications.
Phyllis Fern's cousin won $25,000 on a TV game show.
Pat Germani was impressed at the redevelopment she saw in Olneyville on her visit with Leadership Rhode Island.
New member Raphael Okelola was very happy to "graduate" to Rotary after being in both Interact and Rotaract.
President Richard is pleased that his nephew is doing well at the Wolf School and proud to wear an Olympic pin his nephew gave him.
