Club's 99th President to be Installed on Monday, June 28th

Cynthia Leonard, owner of Sir Speedy Providence, will be formally installed as the 99th president of the Rotary Club of Providence at special ceremonies at the noon meeting of the club at the Providence Marriott.  In addition, other officers and directors for the 2010-2011 year will be installed by Rotary District 7950 Governor Charlie Murphy.

PROGRAM SUMMARY for  June 21, 2010

This Rotary Meeting was not like other meetings. While we did have the traditional salute to the flag, thought for the day, a nice meal, announcements, and happy bucks, we did not have a speaker. What we did today was allow an opportunity to all Providence Rotarians present to update and provide new information for our new website. There were six stations setup. Each station was showcasing a different part of the website.

The stations were:

1)    Photos: James Jones played professional paparazzi popping off pictures of all of our beautiful faces for the website.

2)    Profiles: Sue Johnson gathered updated information on our profiles as to who we are as Rotarians.

3)    Advertising: Art Norwalk told us of ways we can advertise our services for cheap, cheap, cheap money!

4)    Name tags: Holly Applegate helped us create new, more interactive name tags for our meetings.

5)    Committees: Kris David helped us find new committees to help us live up to the Rotary Motto, SERVICE ABOVE SELF!

6)    Story: Jenny Miller helped us to write our Rotary Story which will be used on the website to help others understand Rotary better.

Not the normal Rotary meeting, but a very important one and one that was fun to participate in. Also, now we must all wait to see who will win the wonderful prize as everyone who participated is entered to win something special. WHAT WILL IT BE? WHO WILL WIN??

Bonjour.

Comment allez-vous?

Très bien, monsieurs et madames.

I did a little better than this, but not so much. Hillary and I did not get lost on the Metro or on the streets, and we were able to navigate the menus without much trouble either.

The convention and Montreal were truly wonderful places to experience! Most of our time was actually spent at Convention events, and they were top notch, informative, inspiring, and entertaining.

I had the opportunity to meet and briefly speak with the new president, Ray Klinginsmith (USA), and the President-elect, Kayanh Banjaree(sp?) (India). I attended a special dinner arranged by Lou Marciano (PDG) from N. Providence for 1991-1992 International PDGs and the President that year along with a select few additional District 7950 members. The District hors d’oevres happy hour event allowed for renewal and continuation of many friendships established during my leadership and training years.

The power, significance, and importance of Rotary in our world were abundantly on display. Acrimony, political, religious, or ethnic disputes are put aside as Rotarians strive to meet a higher purpose – Service about Self, living up to the 4-Way Test.

The keynote presentations were all great, both by Rotarian presenters and non-Rotarian presenters such as Robert Mazzuca (Boy Scouts of America), Dolly Parton (Dollywood-literacy), the LT Governor of Ontario Province (a Rotarian and polio survivor), and Queen Noor of Jordan. The entertainment was varried and top shelf too. Celtic Thunder, Russell Watson(opera), and Cirque de Soleil (Montreal born and bred).

I am now adorned with more ties, shirts, flags, and pins, and will be happy to model or present them at future meetings.

Next year’s convention is in New Orleans. If you have never gone to an International Convention, I strongly urge you to go; the experience is well worth the time and reasonable price.

And so now this IS it (my last blog as your President). I will never forget the wonderful time we have all had this year and look forward to many more years of Rotary fun and good deeds. I will take a back seat, but I’ll be lending my experience and hands as we go forward, as the Future of Rotary is in (our) Hands.

Yours in Rotary,

Richard

Sue Johnson: On Monday, June 28, we will be installing new officers. We will start our meeting earlier, at 11:30 AM instead of 12:15 PM. Please note this. Also, come with very festive shoes, ties, or any other type of festive dress.
