Cynthia Leonard installed as Club's 99th President
Laughter and music greeted everyone at the Monday, June 28th meeting. Clearly, this Rotary meeting would not be the traditional subdued celebration. The difference was quickly noticeable – a cash bar in one corner, the Rob Degman & Company band in the opposite corner and every table festively adorned with a shoe theme centerpiece. We weren’t in Kansas anymore and Dorothy’s shoes were everywhere ready to click to begin the term of Providence Rotary’s new president. However, the celebration was not only for the installation of the new president, Cynthia Leonard, it was also to thank Richard Applebaum for all that was achieved this past year as he stepped down. Then of course some celebration was for Providence Rotary’s hundredth year. The time spent on detail to make this day fun and special was visible everywhere and much appreciated by all the members.
The meeting began with the beautiful voice of Phoebe Madden singing the National Anthem.
In her invocation, Rev. Maria De Carvalho said this was a moment of inspiration. It is a time to reflect that we are her to celebrate all the good that Rotary accomplishes and to wish the best for the incoming president, Cynthia Leonard. The hope is that her term will be looked back on as a time of vision and new energy.
Thanks were given to out going directors: Jim Alexander, Richard Leone, Art Norwalk, Jenny Miller and Kathy Swann.
Installation Ceremony
District Governor Charlie Murphy installed the new directors Pat Germani, Wendy Marcus, Holly Appelgate, Anthony Hollingshead, Linda Xavier and Walter Cotter
Kathy Swann gave the introduction for the multi talented, awarded, and degreed, Cynthia Leonard. Cynthia’s commitment and enthusiasm to all she becomes involved with are admirable and the traits that make others want to follow. Her commitment and leadership will further our Club’s strong work.
District Governor Charlie Murphy proceeded to install her as the club’s 99th president.
After her installation as the new president of the Rotary Club of Providence, Cynthia thanked the membership for their trust and Richard, who paved the way for change.
She had much to be happy about - to Richard Applebaum for all the structure he has added; to Sarah Ryan for saving her and her family’s life; to Jenny Miller for the T-shirt she made for Cynthia that reads, “It's good to be queen;” to friend, Susan Johnson, for agreeing to be the MC; to the planning committee for organizing this impressive event; to her husband, Paul Damon; and the musicians from the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra.
Cynthia then showed a great slide show of where Rotary has been and where it is going. Coming from a family of Rotarians, the blood runs deep on what Rotarians can accomplish locally and internationally. She's sees the power and joy of Rotary and left us with our new mantra, "THINK BIG...BE BOLD." LET'S MIX IT UP!!

President Cynthia Leonard, District 7950 Governor Charlie Murphy, and Rochelle Carnevale, wife of the late PDG and PP Peter Carnevale.

Tuesday, July 6th - The Club will meet from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Marriott's Aqua courtyard facility for fellowship and entertainment.
