THE BEAUTY OF JAPANESE
RELIGIOUS ARCHITECTURE
Mary Brewster shared fabulous photos of Japanese religious architecture from her nine trips to Japan while her daughter lived there. Most Japanese structures including Shinto shrines are built with wood. They are often rebuilt every 20 years to create a more perfect paradise. Timber is brought in from an abundance of beautiful trees.
Purification of your hands is a very important tradition before entering a shrine along with burning incense and ringing a bell. The main open hall is used for services and meditation. Meticulously cared for gardens are integrated into every space to create synergy and spiritual awareness.
