INSPIRATION

ANNOUNCEMENTS/REMINDERS
President Paul spoke to the students about what Rotary is: 35,000 clubs throughout the world dedicated to Service Above Self. Providence Rotary supports a number of initiatives both in Providence and internationally including in the Dominican Republic with clean water, sanitation and Flip Flops for Friends.

Sophia Academy and San Miguel students filled the ballroom at the Providence Marriott on Monday with their enthusiasm for lunch out with Rotarians and a visit from Santa! Rotarians were equally delighted to host the children.
Gigi DiBello, Sophia’s principal, thanked the Club for the luncheon saying the students never take the party at the Marriott for granted. She recognized the Club and San Miguel for their support after the Academy was vandalized - it sent an important message: our girls’ lives matter!
Sophia Academy student, Anita Hazziez, described her 3 ½ years at the school as a learning experience where she is guided by the school’s core values and has truly come to know herself as a person. She had the courage to try mountain climbing knowing that if she believed she could, she would and she did!
Mark Carty also thanked Rotarians for the opportunity that San Miguel students thoroughly enjoy each year. He introduced Sean Norman who spoke about his “band of brothers” at San Miguel and how his eyes have been opened to world issues, like racial injustice. At San Miguel he learned the courage to say yes to opportunities and open doors that might have been closed to him.
Santa brought great gifts - stylish watches with large round faces and you could tell it was a great hit - the kids had them on their wrists within seconds!
The students also brought gifts for the Rotarians - their appreciation for Providence Rotarians’ continued and genuine interest in their lives and futures.
They entertained us with sweet a cappella voices singing "Let it Snow, Let it Snow" and a creative pantomime of the "Night Before Christmas",
