Randy Dittmar announced that the Dictionaries are on their way! Labeling takes place at his office on 11/20 at 5:30 pm – with pizza.
President Paul announced the birth of his new granddaughter.
Providence Rotarians enjoying Thursday's Paul Harris Foundation Dinner included Ben Longtin, Pres. Paul, Mike Kelly, Richard Applebaum, Jenny Miller and Liz Messier.
The main speaker was Anne Matthews, RI (Rotary International) Vice President.
22 Providence Rotarians attended the dinner, whose focus was on giving to the RI foundation and all of the outstanding work that Rotary is doing around the world.
Scott MacKay of RI Public Radio gave an entertaining talk about the recent election, focusing on the two marquee races, the Providence mayoral race and the governor’s race.
He discussed the 30% share of the Providence vote being from the East Side and the fact that without Providence, Gina Raimondo would not have won the governor’s race.
Jack Reed’s share of the vote “declined” from 73% to 71%. Because the Republicans will now hold a majority of the seats in the Senate, he will not be chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, unfortunate for our state, which has had a military presence for many years.
Two referenda had a statewide effect, the defeat of a Constitutional Convention and the fact that there will be no table games in Newport, causing a $15-20 million dollar loss in state revenues, which will need to be made up somewhere.
