Meeting: Date March 9
Reporter: Don Saracen
INSPIRATION by Liz Messier:
Since 1987, March has been recognized as Women’s History Month. It’s a time to celebrate the women who came before us, the women we are today and the women to follow. We celebrate their ambition, strength and courage.
In honor of Women’s History Month I share this quote with you from Ruth Bader Ginsburg. “Fight for the things you care about, but do it in a way that others will join you.”
And from Oprah Winfrey “You have to find what sparks a light in you, so that in you in your own way you can illuminate the world.”

SUPPORTING EDUCATION DURING THE PANDEMIC
Susanna Loeb, Director, Annenberg Institute, Professor of Education and International Public Affairs at Brown, discussed a number of collaborative effects between Brown and Providence to improve education, with emphasis on the impacts of the Covid pandemic.
They do direct work with districts, conduct open dialogue on teacher diversity and pipelines to fill vacancies. They work to understand the need and create tools. As an example Tip’s by Text, which sends text messages to parents bits of literacy activities they can share with their children. She has realized notable results using these type of tools.
Tutoring one on one and small groups are very important especially if they are embedded in schools.
