INSPIRATION
Cap Willey inspired us with quotes from famous sports leaders including:
Vince Lombardi – “The greatest accomplishment in not in never falling, but rising again after falling.” From Bill Belichick - “To live in the past is to die in the present.”

ANNOUNCEMENTS, Etc.
Are you registered for Tuesday's installation of President Holly Applegate along with other officers and new board members?
  • If so, remember it's at Squantum, not the Marriott.

  • If not, you can still attend on Zoom:

Liz Messier is the new chair for Rotary After Dark and announced two events coming up this summer.
  • In July, date to be determined, will be a walk on the new Michael Van Leesten Providence Pedestrian bridge with photos taken by Holly Applegate. New photos will be available to you as well as used to update our online club directory. Drinks at a local restaurant to follow our walk.

  • Save the date, August 5th, for Shakespeare in the Park presented free by the Burbage Theater Company. Bring a picnic and your family to see them perform, "Much Ado About Nothing."
Further details on both events to come. If you’re interested in helping on the Rotary After Dark committee, reach out to Liz - emessier@residentialproperties.com.

Jim Gilcreast reminded everyone to look for large auction items - "experiences wanted" for our October Legends for Literacy Gala.

HAPPY BUCKS led by Margaret Kane
Anthony Hollingshead gave a happy buck for the great job Bryan Cook did leading the club as president.

Cap Willey gave two happy bucks, one for each granddaughter. Granddaughter #1 graduated from high school in VA and Granddaughter #2 played a great game in her Division 2 Lacrosse Championship.

Holly Applegate gave two happy bucks - one to thank and congratulate Bryan Cook for his year as president and secondly for Jeff Church, our speaker today.

Pete Brock was happy, the Patriots Alumni is back in action having completed their most successful ever first fundraiser since Covid and because he is a grandfather again, Cameron Anthony was born on June 19th.

Bryan Cook had a happy buck for all the Rotarians for having survived and thrived throughout the  pandemic

Jim Gilcreast was happy on behalf of Cy Wyche and he thanked everyone for his Rotary Reward of 47 years of perfect attendance.

NINE YEARS OF GROWTH
THROUGH ENGAGING THEATER
Jeff Church, Artistic Director for Burbage Theater Company, spoke about their non profit theater company located in Pawtucket and shared the evolution of how the group began - as a group of four actors at Rhode Island College - to what they are today - a semi-professional theater company with a resident team of actors and invited Actors Equity professionals.

They are now entering their 9th season with their season soon to be announced. Their goal is to excite and engage a new generation of theater-goers with socially relevant and compelling stories told by an expert ensemble of actors. Burbage is dedicated to growing and cultivating the diverse artistic culture in Rhode Island.

Rotary After Dark on July 5th will give Rotarians the opportunity to experience theatre in the park from the Burbage Theatre Company with their production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. Watch for details!
