Holly Applegate thanked all for a successful night at the Barker Playhouse, and mentioned that another is in the works for May.

Holiday Party will be at Mike & Kathy Kelly’s from 2-5 on 6-Dec, and on 8-Dec we will host the boys and girls from San Miguel and Sophia Academy for the annual holiday lunch.

Elizabeth Francis, the Executive Director of the RI Council for the Humanities, spoke to the club about the importance of the humanities to a civil society and its economic development.
The Council is the keeper of our collective history and our cultural history. It promotes civic education and community engagement in society. The Council makes grants in several areas, for example to develop broad-based critical and analytical thinking as an aspect of workforce development. The Council also is home to several ongoing projects, such as the Ajax project for returning soldiers, the Book Project, to celebrate the art and culture of making, reading and sharing books, and Rhode Map, a project to support Rhode Island Tourism.
The Council also seeks to raise and address serious matters on the cultural horizon. What will it mean when by 2040 more than 40% of the citizens of Rhode Island will be people of color? What should Providence do with its waterfront now that Route 195 has been relocated?

Paul Borrelli, Jim Williams, Paul Segal and likely a few other snowbirds proved George's point by staying in FL.
Phil Gossel was happy that Brown students were enjoying year-round outdoor tennis.
Mary Brewster said her roof load calculations were all checking out better than the one at Brown.
Bill Sequino was thrilled not to be running a municipality anymore.
Jim Gilcreast said not a flake of snow dared to fall on the Boston College campus.
Jean Patiky did a lovely watercolor called Snow Day (really).
Anthony Hollingshead was happy to have an extra week of preparation for his debut as presiding officer.
Richard Leone said the city was doing a bang-up job for his business.
Jan Feyler is wondering if it's safe to come home next week.
